Artisan Evaluation

For our promotional video we got assorted into several groups, i was put into the Artisan group that were tasked with filming inside the colleges restaurant though out the next week or two. We had a couple of people in our group, all with shared and individual roles to do in order to get this video done. Tom was the director of the promotional video and would have the best ideas of what shots to get that looked the most professional, he also filmed a lot of the shots and edited in a group with Luke. I was also the cameraman for some days that we filmed and assisted the cameraman when i wasn't filming. I also helped Tom sort out the dates with Karen, the manager of the Artisan restaurant on when would be the best and busiest times for us to come and film customers. I also edited a separate edit of the promotional video. Luke was the cameraman on some of the days and also assisted tom in their group edit. He also helped tom plan some of the shots and gave feedback on which ones he thought would look good or not for the final edit. Joseph helped me edit our Artisan group edit and also assisted us when we were filming around inside the restaurant and the kitchen.

As soon as we were assigned into our Artisan group we all went up to the Artisan Restaurant and spoke to the manager of the Artisan, Karen. We let her know what our task was and if it would be possible to film in the restaurant during open hours and get some shots of customers and the chefs in the kitchen. She let us know which days and dates would be the best for us to get what footage we needed for the promotional video, and we started to book the equipment we would need for those days. We took out a camera and tripod and also brought a long another camera to take pictures of us filming for evidence in our post production folders. We needed to co ordinate a time for all four of us to be available so that we could go up and film in the Artisan together as a group and started filming almost immediately after consulting the dates with Karen. There was a lot of things i learnt from being in the group and filming in the Artisan such as how to set up the tripod for the camera. I had never had to learn how to do it before but being in this group gave me the opportunity to take lead and learn how to do a lot of the things i avoided doing in previous filming tasks. I also learned more about the cameras we were filming with as they were new cameras for the college, so i got to experiment with things like the focus and the zoom while filming. The focus came really handy for filming professional looking shots that started out blurry then slowly came onto focus. Another skill that i learned in post editing that helped a lot was warp stabiliser, this would help with shots that came out a bit shaky for use in the final edit, the warp stabiliser feature would scan the footage and try its best to make the clip as still as possible so it ended out looking much more stable and professional than the original clip

Peer Feedback

TomI really love the music, it fits the cool, professional theme really well- well chosen! I think that you should have evaluated the finished product further because of some moments where it's too bright or the blur to un-blur is wrong. During the interview, you also play the music over the actual sound; this sounds a wee bit messy. You also use something from Darren's interview that perhaps shouldn't of been used. But otherwise, good job!

LukeI like the way that is is edited and some stabilising shots have been used to help make some of the shots look smoother to look more professional, one of the things you could of changed would of been the way you have exported it to make it look a bit better and maybe worked on the lighting balance as some shots were lighter and others were darker which didn't make it looks professional other than that its a well made video and i liked the way the shots were placed as well.

EstherThe transitions were good, however the music was overlapping with the interview which made it difficult to understand the interviewees. There were a wide range of shots used and I think that if you added some more shots of the students, then you would know it was a student run restaurant in a college; it almost looked like students doing work experience in another restaurant but not the artisan.

DeborahYour edit of the promotional video recognises generic conventions with technical skills being employed with some imagination. There are some aesthetically pleasing shots and cuts match the tempo of the music. The interviews should have been conducted without background noise as the harsh radio playing in the background is intrusive. Some shots would have befitted from the use of a tripod as they were shaky and some are a little overexposed. The main issue, which is easily rectifiable, is that there are no logos on this edit.
